Stair Lift Technology

Care for the elderly has progressed in the latter 30 years. At one time of the day if an elderly person was no longer able to walk up stairs, then they would be forced to either have a bed in the downstairs of the house or have the option of moving into an old peoples home where they would be cared for by trained staff on a daily basis. This often meant the elderly moving to a place where they felt uncomfortable, plus it meant that a persons belongings had to be squeezed into a tiny room. Nowadays the elderly have the option of having a stair lift (Lifta Treppenlift) within their residence to aid them up and down the stairs. Due to this technology there have been many villages and retirement complexes built around the country, which offer the elderly a chance to retire to a complex which is more like a holiday camp than a retirement home. Some of these complexes are converted mansions and have had stair lifts (Treppenlifter) installed as standard.

These retirement villages offer residents the chance to take part in all sorts of different activities such as table tennis, yoga, keep fit, luncheon club etc. and as stressed before these are not homes for the elderly or residential care. It is like buying a flat with a service charge attached to it, the flat belongs to the person buying it and there a facilities to enable the elderly to enjoy there days of retirement.

There is usually a manager on site who makes sure that the village is a good working order for the day ahead, and there is an administration team which are available when there is a problem. This team also offer the facility of supplying guest rooms for if any relatives should wish to visit, these complexes are more like hotels.

To give piece of mind to the elderly there is usually an alarm call system fitted which is directly linked with a medical centre should their be any emergencies day or night. The complexes are usually fitted with a bar too.

So for any elderly person not wanting to stay in their home on their own, they can always opt for one of these superb retirement villages where all the facilities such as stair lifts and alarm systems come as standard. Plus they get the added bonus of feeling like they are on holiday everyday of the week.

For all those that can’t afford one of these retirement complexes or just don’t want to move from the comfort of their own home, then there is other help which is available for the elderly such as meals on wheels (which make sure a hot meal is served daily), home helps, and day care facilities which offer the elderly a hot meal, a cup of tea and a chance to chat. Disabled access is standard on the buses which collect the elderly, plus relevant disabled access and facilities are also offered in the centre.
